La Paris dates back to 1699 when Willem Adriaan van der Stel as a newly appointed governor awarded the farm to Francois Retief. The French Hugenot later married Marie Mouij. They became the founders of the Retief family in South Africa. Francois named the farm La Paris which was both nostalgic and filled with hopes for the future. They farmed with wheat, vineyards and livestock.
La Paris has been the home to various families and activities over the years and has been responsible for many happy memories. The stories told by Italian families celebrating life under the Oak trees in the 1950’s being just some of them.
